embracing the 'woo'
Ok, here is the truth. For over twenty years I have worked in a dog eat dog industry in a highly technical job where there is little room for feelings. I was brought up through the ranks and adopted a mentality of avoiding vulnerability, burying feelings and just doing what needed to be done to succeed. I was along for the ride, not in control and not staying true to myself or my values. In hindsight this was a survival tactic.
I began exploring the realm of personal awareness. This was excruciatingly uncomfortable. I felt personal resistance, rolled my eyes and was skeptical. In hindsight, I saw embracing the 'woo' as a sign of weakness, something that I would be judged for. The words "pilots don't talk about feelings" haunted me for years.
Once I was able silence that voice, acknowledge that even pilots have feelings and begin defining my values and discovering what I had control over, everything changed! Talking about how I felt and accepting that I am not defined by what I do for a living opened up a new world of possibilities.
Embracing the 'woo' can be a challenge for many professionals that are involved in technical industries, essential and emergency services. As somebody that has been there I completely understand the discomfort but am here to support you in breaking that mold as the first step to discovering and achieving the things that our self imposed confines and narratives once prevented us from even considering.
Embracing the 'woo' is a conscious choice, it is something that we decide to do. Rather than making us soft, it truly becomes our armour and our greatest tool.
